Today's hike was on the Appalachian Trail from Woody Gap to Gooch Gap, GA and back

Trail information

This section of the A.T. is beautiful with lots of great mountain views. The terrain is very hilly as typical of the Georgia portion of the Appalachian Trail. Another great day for a hike! The hike started off in the fog which cleared a couple of hours into the hike, but the clouds remained throughout the hike with an occasional ray of sunlight poking through to warm the day. The trail was generally in good condition, but fairly wet and somewhat slippery in some locations due to the overnight rain and previous two months of frequent rains. Total distance - 7.7 mi. Strenuous We met 25 thru-hikers today 18 miles into their 2,000 plus mile journey to Mt. Katahdin, Maine. These thru-hikers were from England, Wales, Denmark, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, North Carolina, New Hampshire and Florida. Only two of the thru-hikers were women

Directions

Take Hwy. 129 N from Cleveland, GA for about 9 mi. then turn left at Turner's Corner and travel several miles to Hwy 60 (rock pile) turn right and drive to the top of the mountain to the A.T. crossing at Woody Gap. Park on the left and hike southward
