Tallulah Gorge State Park. GA Today, we hiked the trails at Tallulah Gorge State Park at Tallulah Falls, GA. The Terrora Lake Trail, Shortline Trail, Old 441 Lakeside and portions of the Tallulah Gorge Rim Trails

Trail information

We started at the Historic Tallulah Falls Jail and hiked the Terrora Lake Loop then the Shortline Trail and the Old HWY 441 Lakeside back to the jail and continuing along the lake to the Gorge Rim Trails. Total hiking distance today - 5.4 miles with only a couple of gentle hills and some did the very steep staircase to the suspension bridge over the gorge. Difficulty rating - mostly easy except for the staircase which is very strenuous

Directions

Tallulah Gorge State Park is about 10 miles south of Clayton, GA on Highway 441. For the Shortline Trail, turn to the right at the traffic light in Tallulah Falls (if coming from the north) then turn right and park at the gravel parking lot at the historic Tallulah Falls Jail on the right just before the bridge. Another great day for a hike! Mostly clear, breezy with temperatures ranging from 28 to 38 degrees F

  • The GA Power Hydroelectric Plant Terrora. Began operation in 1925 and is still generating today! It is fed by Lake Rabun through a mile long tunnel.
  • Support pillars of the old Tallulah Falls Railroad in Tallulah Falls Lake.
  • Now, we are on the Gorge North Rim Trail.
