Today's hike was on the Lady Slipper Trail in the Chattahoochee National Forest Lake Russell Recreation Area near Cornelia, GA - Total - 7.2 miles
Directions
Take Ga 365/U.S. 23 North from Gainesville past Cornelia to Hwy 197. Turn right for approximately 3 miles until dead-end. Right on Dicks Hill Parkway for approx. ¾ mile. Turn left onto the paved Lake Russell Road. . Another great day for a hike! Partly cloudy, and cool with temps. ranging from the mid 20's to the mid 40's F

A cold morning at the Nancytown Lake parking lot. Nancytown Lake was partially frozen over after two nights in the teens. After a half-mile walk, we arrive at the trail head. A beautiful walk in the North Georgia forest. A stream leading into the upper end of Nancytown Lake. Here we encounter a trail obstruction. Jet has no problem with it! A colorful patch of lichen called British Soldiers (Cladonia cristatella) Appropriate for the Christmas season, we find this American Holly (Ilex opaca). This cove at the upper end of the lake was iced over. The OFHC gang for today's hike.
